Double click on the PLCv3 Setup Icon on the PLC CD.
The program and all associated folders will be installed and distributed to the proper directories.
The Program Application (.exe) will be located on your
hardrive:\Program Files\PLC v3\ folder, and a shortcut will be placed in your Start Menu and on your desktop.

!The setup program will launch the PLCv3 application. You will need to exit it to finish the installation procedure!

Within the Protected Lands Catalogue v3 directory, you will also find the "Export Folder". This is where the exported files will be saved when it comes time to submit information to the Land Trust Alliance of BC. As explained in the "PLC Help" section of the program, the files within this folder will need to be attached to an e-mail message to the above e-mail address when submitting them.

READING OVER THE "PLC HELP" IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ACQUAINT YOURSELF TO THIS APPLICATION. It covers most all of the topics where problems could arise, and provides clear instructions on how to use the program.

UPDATING THE PROTECTED LANDS CATALOGUE FROM THE OLD VERSION TO THE NEW:
If you have entries in the old version of the program and wish to import them into the updated version, go to the help section and click on "Update to PLC version 3" and follow the directions.
The process consists of
1. Making sure all records are "found" in the older version
2. Closing or quitting the older version
3. Running the "Update All Records" script from the 'scripts' menu in the new version and following the dialogue prompts.
4. Removing the older version (2.12) of the Protected Lands Catalogue from your computer.

USING THE PROGRAM:
Starting with the Common Name of the protected area, go through the form and fill in the fields as completely and as accurately as possible. This will help keep the registry database complete and up-to-date. LOCATION COORDINATES ARE VERY IMPORTANT! We use this information to locate the property in our Geographic Information System (GIS) as well as on our internet site, accessed at www.landtrustalliance.bc.ca/registry.
Remember, from most all of the drop-down menus, you can select multiple entries by holding down the "shift" key as you click on and select the values that you wish to include.

Access the "Land Trust Section" from either of the two buttons. This area is designed to store relevant information pertaining to the specific protected area entries. It catalogues documentation such as maps and photos, as well as serving as a landholder contact book/list that is linked to the entry to which they are associated. This section is for your office use only its data will not be exported to the Land Trust Alliance of BC.

EXPORTING DATA TO THE LAND TRUST ALLIANCE OF BC:

See "Exporting to LTA" option in 'PLC Help' for in-depth instruction.
1. Click on the 'Export to LTA' Button
2. Select if you want to submit all or just selected entries.
3. Use the "Clear X" button and the Checkbox to select which entries you wish to export.
4. Attach the saved files (from the 'Export Folder' as mentioned above) to an e-mail message to the Land Trust Alliance of BC.
5. E-mail any appropriate photographs related to the protected areas.

THE RECOVER COMMAND

In the event of a system crash or other significant computer failure, you can recover the damaged files by holding down the "Ctrl+Shift" while opening the Protected Lands Catalogue v2.12 program. Hold down the two keys until the recover dialogue box appear. You may have to re-name certain files to restore the functionality of the program (eg. remove "Copy of" and delete to original file).
